Return to Everlong
By Micah R. Guidry

Supernatural Thriller/ Drama

In the spring of 1991, three young, dysfunctional friends, MALCOLM, STEVE, and ROBYN set out for a night of partying at a small nightclub in Everlong, Texas, after hearing an ad for it on the local radio. Once there, they immediately get an odd feeling about the place, as everyone is acting rather strange, dressed in vintage clothing, and several of the patrons continuously approach  Malcolm, making  quick comments and off phrases, as if they know him. They pay all this little mind at first and continue on with the nights festivities.

After several strange hours the three young men decide to leave. As they head home intoxicated, they accidentally hit a telephone pole at high speed. Coincidentally, earlier that night, a very similar car, with three very similar looking young men, strike two teenage girls heading home from a party on foot, and flee the scene. One of the young ladies was the Mayor's daughter.

Once the police arrive on the scene of the accident involving Malcolm,, Steve, and Robyn, they quickly make the false connection, and the three are arrested for the "hit-and-run". They quickly profess their innocence, and claim their time at the Club Everlong as their Alibi during the stated time of the "hit-and-run". The police head to Club Everlong to investigate and question the patrons to see if the alibi fits. However, upon arrival they discover nothing more than an old, boarded up building, and quickly recall just what the location was. As it happens to be, Club Everlong no longer exists, and has not since 1969, when a disturbed maniac locked the patrons in and poisoned the air shaft, killing almost everyone inside.

Our characters are confused, and scared. They believe a mistake has been made, and swear on their whereabouts. It is to no avail, as the Chief of Police promises the Mayor a quick conviction, and the three young men fit the bill perfectly. Their weak alibi does not holdup against witnesses testimony and the fact that the place they claim to have been does not exist, which upsets everyone, and rightfully so. They are charged and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Malcolm, however, suddenly makes a connection. Because of the strange comments that were made to him that night at the club, and the patrons clothing, he realizes, that in fact, the people at the club were not alive at all, but ghosts of the murdered. He has this realization while in court being tried, however, it dos not do any good, and the three are tried, convicted, and sentenced. Malcolm, because he was the driver, is sentenced to twenty years in prison on multiple counts.
It is there, in prison, where the middle act of our story takes place through a series of horrific events, brought on by "skinheads", corrupt guards, his girlfriend's marriage to his best friend Steve, the suicide of Robyn, constant nightmares, and a longing for some answers. Why were they lead to that nightclub? Why were they allowed to see those ghosts? What did they want from him? Why is all of this happening to him? Malcolm is quickly torn down to the lowest common denominator, all the while still claiming his innocence while losing his sanity. It is through the odd friendship of an Indian, activist cellmate, a young prison priest, and a new found desire to live, that Malcolm finally discovers, in an incredible plot twist, the shocking truth about the night in Everlong, his past, and his true self.

Once this profound truth is discovered and realized, Malcolm, in what is a fast paced and greatly climactic final act, makes a solid commitment to undo the wrongs, turn things around, and save himself and his soul, mo matter the costs.
